Jaw Position and Teeth Grinding

Neuromuscular dentistry is dedicated to realigning the jaw to relieve temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and fix malocclusion, also known as a bad bite. Teeth grinding is also a common habit that can cause facial/muscular/join pain.

Bite Guards

Also known as occlusal guards, these appliances are lab fabricated to ensure a custom fit to your teeth. They are worn at nighttime, and are recommended for patients that show significant wear on the top part of their teeth. This can be an indication that you are clenching and grinding your teeth at nighttime. This action often times results in facial/muscular/joint pain, especially early in the day. A thorough evaluation will be completed, and the bite guard can be made with a quick impression taken at your appointment.

Botox

Dr. Kauffmann has been offering botox treatments for TMD and facial pain symptoms, which are often caused by bruxism. He earned his certification through the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics and has treated many patients with this procedure. Dr. Kauffmann will complete a comprehensive exam to see if you can benefit from botox therapy.

Botox (Botulinum Toxin) is a very safe and effective treatment method to help relax muscle groups that can be in hyper function, causing patients to clench and grind their teeth, often times resulting in pain and discomfort. It is nearly a painless procedure and only takes minutes to perform in office.
